National Weather Service Glossary: This [online] glossary contains information on more than 2000 terms, phrases and abbreviations used by the NWS. Many of these terms and abbreviations are used by NWS forecasters to communicate between each other and have been in use for many years and before many NWS products were directly available to the public. It is the purpose of this glossary to aid the general public in better understanding NWS products.

 

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s National Weather Service Glossary is also available as a paperback book, published in 2012. “Previously, this book was only available online as a search tool. This [paperback] edition is based on material posted to the website as of late 2012. We believe this edition is more useful in many situations.” Listed on Amazon.
